The Kia Niro is powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine assisted by an electric motor to generate 139 HP and 195 pound-feet of peak torque which paired to 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). It took 8.6 seconds to cover 0 to 60 MPH which is bit slower than the rivals and have a top speed of 118 mph. The plug-in hybrid version uses a larger battery pack and EPA claims that it will cover 26 miles on only electric mode. It has paddle shifters mounted on steering wheel to shift gears according to your convenience and its steering feedback is quite good as it perfectly weighted on corners on high speeds. Niro’s ride quality is firm and composed and it easily glides over potholes.
According to EPA, the 2022 Kia Niro with hybrid powertrain delivers 53 mpg in city and 48 mpg on the highway while plug-in hybrid version delivers 105 mpg combine and 26 miles on electric only mode.
