2024 Kia Seltos Hybrid
The Kia Seltos has established itself as a prominent player in India’s competitive C-SUV segment. Now, Kia is considering introducing a hybrid engine variant for the Seltos, potentially transforming its offerings in the market. Here’s an overview of the details available:
The success of the Seltos can be attributed, in part, to its diverse range of engine and transmission options. Kia is actively exploring hybrid technology as a potential replacement for diesel engines in the Indian market. Kia India’s MD & CEO, Tae-Jin Park has emphasized the brand will continue selling diesel engines as long as regulations permit. However, Kia aims to eventually phase-out of diesel engines.
Expectations and Developments:
Kia is in the process of electrifying its existing 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine options. The brand possesses hybrid technology expertise from its global markets, and it aims to strike a balance between introducing hybrid solutions and managing costs in the Indian market. Localizing the hybrid motor and battery pack becomes crucial for cost-effectiveness.
The hybrid setup is anticipated to be introduced initially on the upcoming sub-4m SUV, the Clavis, expected to debut by the end of 2024 with a subsequent launch in 2025. Following the Clavis launch, the hybrid setup could extend to the Seltos and Carens in the subsequent years.
