Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Specifications and Details
Maruti Suzuki’s flagship model, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, has made quite an impact since its launch in 2022. It is known for its fuel-efficient hybrid system, clever packaging, and interior quality. The Grand Vitara has quickly established itself in the competitive midsize SUV segment. Celebrating its first anniversary, it has achieved a remarkable feat by selling over 1 lakh units, becoming the fastest midsize SUV to reach this milestone. This accomplishment has also catapulted Maruti Suzuki to the top of the SUV segment. It boasts a 22 percent market share for the first half of the financial year. The Grand Vitara’s sales exceeded 10,000 units per month in March, with 11,818 units sold last month.
Toyota-adopted Hybrid Tech working for Suzuki?
The success of the Maruti Suzuki can be attributed in part to its strong hybrid powerplant borrowed from partner Toyota. That is in addition to offering mild-hybrid and CNG powertrains as well. The strong-hybrid versions of the Grand Vitara have gained substantial interest, constituting approximately 22 percent of total sales. While the CNG variants make up about 14 percent. This achievement is noteworthy, especially considering that hybrids currently account for only about 1.7 percent of the industry, compared to EVs, which stand at around 2.4 percent. Maruti Suzuki plans to continue embracing hybrid technology even as it introduces electric vehicles (EVs) into its portfolio. By 2030, the company aims for a powertrain mix of 15 percent electric, and 25 percent hybrid. The remaining 60 percent is from a combination of CNG, flex-fuel, and more.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Features

These include a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, and a digital driver’s display. Safety features are robust, with six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and rear parking sensors complemented by a 360-degree camera. Top-spec variants of the Grand Vitara go a step further with additional features like ambient lighting, ESP, hill-hold assist, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a total of six airbags.
Engine and Performance
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara offers a variety of engine options to cater to different preferences. It features a 103PS 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 116PS 1.5-litre strong-hybrid powertrain. The petrol engine is available with a choice of a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter, while the hybrid variant utilizes an e-CVT transmission. Additionally, there’s a CNG variant powered by the proven K-series 1.5-litre petrol engine, delivering 64.6kW of peak power at 5500rpm and 121.5 Nm of maximum torque at 4200rpm in CNG mode. Paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, the Grand Vitara S-CNG achieves a claimed fuel efficiency of 26.6 km/kg. While this figure is slightly lower than the Baleno CNG’s 30.61km/kg, the Grand Vitara CNG provides a unique alternative.
The Grand Vitara priced between Rs 10.70 lakh and Rs 19.95 lakh, has achieved remarkable success in the market. It recently celebrated its first anniversary by surpassing the 1 lakh sales milestone, making it the fastest midsize SUV to achieve this feat. The Grand Vitara’s accolades include winning the Car of the Year 2023 and Midsize SUV of the Year awards at the Autocar India 2023 Awards. It has garnered around 210,000 bookings to date, with 100,000 units already sold. Impressively, 45,000 bookings are for the strong-hybrid variants, despite a waiting period of approximately 3 months. The Grand Vitara accounts for 31% of Maruti Suzuki’s total pending orders of 350,000 units. In the April-August 2023 period, Maruti Suzuki achieved a 25.68% market share by selling a total of 247,196 UVs (SUVs and MPVs).
