The success of the Maruti Suzuki can be attributed in part to its strong hybrid powerplant borrowed from partner Toyota. That is in addition to offering mild-hybrid and CNG powertrains as well. The strong-hybrid versions of the Grand Vitara have gained substantial interest, constituting approximately 22 percent of total sales. While the CNG variants make up about 14 percent. This achievement is noteworthy, especially considering that hybrids currently account for only about 1.7 percent of the industry, compared to EVs, which stand at around 2.4 percent. Maruti Suzuki plans to continue embracing hybrid technology even as it introduces electric vehicles (EVs) into its portfolio. By 2030, the company aims for a powertrain mix of 15 percent electric, and 25 percent hybrid. The remaining 60 percent is from a combination of CNG, flex-fuel, and more.

Top-spec variants of the Grand Vitara go a step further with additional features like ambient lighting, ESP, hill-hold assist, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a total of six airbags.

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara offers a variety of engine options to cater to different preferences. It features a 103PS 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 116PS 1.5-litre strong-hybrid powertrain. The petrol engine is available with a choice of a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter, while the hybrid variant utilizes an e-CVT transmission. Additionally, there’s a CNG variant powered by the proven K-series 1.5-litre petrol engine, delivering 64.6kW of peak power at 5500rpm and 121.5 Nm of maximum torque at 4200rpm in CNG mode. Paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, the Grand Vitara S-CNG achieves a claimed fuel efficiency of 26.6 km/kg. While this figure is slightly lower than the Baleno CNG’s 30.61km/kg, the Grand Vitara CNG provides a unique alternative.
