More Thrill, More Power!
Honda announced that the 2023 Honda Civic Type-R with its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine will make 315 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. That is a 9 hp and 15 lb-ft of increase of power compared to the last-generation Type-R. The car’s peak horsepower has increased to 6400 rpm, while the peak torque is produced between 2600 and 4000 rpm.
Engine Specifications & Performance
The Civic Type-R comes with the same 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 with modifications to boost the power and improved engine response. The improvements include a new air intake, a new turbo, and a reworked exhaust system with an active valve that opens at higher rpm. The car comes paired with a 6-speed manual transmission with a more precise and satisfying feel. The improved transmission works better with the rev-match feature to work better with the engine.
Being tested on both the Nurburgring and Suzuka Circuit, the 2023 Type-R made a new record for a front-wheel drive production car. The car’s performance will say it all when the car comes on US roads. With a better cooling and track-focused performance, the Type-R offers a large grille opening and a large radiator with a big fan. With the mind-blowing specs, we expect good engine cooling optimized with an updated brake pedal that is easier to control.
More Upgrades:
Apart from the upgrades in performance, the new Honda Civic Type-R rocks with 19-inch wheels which are Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires. The tires are 0.8-inch wider and provide more grip to the car. The new tires provide more stability and cornering grip while on high speeds with better steering ability. The chassis is also made wider with 1.0-inch on the front and 0.8-inch in the rear. There is no information about the curb weight of the car, a spokesperson said the new Type-R is slightly heavier. The company has made improvements to the Civic’s body and made it more aerodynamic with a new suspension.
Pricing
Honda hasn’t revealed the official pricing of the 2023 Honda Civic Type-R, but we expect the car could cost around $39,000. While we wait for the official pricing of the new Civic, stay tuned for the updates.
