In the United States, wagons aren’t the most popular body type, but the 2023 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo and Sport Turismo show that popularity isn’t everything. These are the stylish electric Taycan sedan’s long-roof station-wagon rivals, which we evaluate individually. They differ from their more conventional cousin in that they have a larger back seat and more cargo room. Wagons, however, are only offered with dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrains, unlike the saloon. EPA estimates that the maximum driving range is 235 miles. The Cross Turismo Turbo S has 750 hp, whereas regular Cross Turismos have 469 horsepower. There is also a Sport Turismo GTS with 590 horsepower that does away with the Cross Turismo’s body covering and added ride height influenced by SUVs. Both wagons have luxurious interiors that are a delight to ride in, and the Cross Turismo’s higher ground clearance might make it simpler for some passengers to escape.

What’s New?
Porsche updates the battery and charging algorithm in the Taycan Cross and Sport Turismos for 2023 as well as all prior model years to assist extend the range and speed up charging. To reach its maximum 270 kWh charge while at a greater level of charge, Porsche claims the Taycan will now preheat its battery to a higher temperature. Moreover, wireless Android Auto and a more colorful, responsive user interface have been added to the infotainment display. Using the output from charging stations as a filter, the system can also locate charging stations. The 19-inch painted Aero wheels are no longer available.
Battery, Range & Performance
The Taycan Cross Turismo, which shares a chassis and other parts with its saloon sibling, is powered solely by electricity. The wagon is, however, only available with AWD. Depending on the trim level, two electric motors with combined outputs between 469 and 750 horsepower provide the power. The Taycan’s two-speed transmission on the rear axle, a first for an EV, is among its most intriguing features. In 3.5 seconds, the 562-hp 4S model reached 60 mph. The Taycan also offers steady performance, unlike typical EVs, which go slower as their battery charge runs out. For 2023, the Taycan wagon’s range will rise.
The Taycan 4 Cross Turismo has the longest range, with an EPA-rated range of 235 miles, an increase of 20 miles from the previous year. The EPA estimates the range of the Taycan GTS and Turbo Cross Turismo variants to be 233 miles. Unsurprisingly, the Turbo S Cross Turismo, the most potent Taycan wagon, has the shortest range, with an EPA-rated distance of 222 miles. We anticipate the wagon to have a comparable if slightly shorter, all-electric range and the capacity to charge its battery from 5 to 80 percent in as little as 22.5 minutes as the Cross Turismo will share the sedan’s 800-volt architecture.

The MPGe rating of the Taycan Cross Turismo is somewhat lower than that of the saloon. According to the EPA, the GTS Sport Turismo and Taycan 4 Cross Turismo earn 80 MPGe. The Turbo S Cross Turismo, the Taycan station wagon with the highest power, has an EPA-estimated 75 MPGe.

Except for the absence of a model with rear-wheel drive and the wagon’s somewhat higher pricing than the sedan, the Cross Turismo range is identical to that of the standard Taycan. In light of the foregoing, we advise purchasing the Cross Turismo 4S model, which has a 562-hp powertrain. It includes all-wheel drive and an adjustable air suspension as standard equipment on all variants. This summer, the long-roof Taycan will be available for purchase and will include three years of free Electrify America charging. We’d also advise spending an additional, but worthwhile, amount to use the Porsche Experience Center.
