The grand touring car concept originated in Europe in the early 1950s. A grand tourer (GT) is a type of car that is designed for high-speed and long-distance driving. Everything from fast hatchbacks to mid-engined supercars and four-seat convertibles come under this category. The 1951 introduction of the Lancia Aurelia B20 GT was a starting moment for the era. In addition Motorsports became important in the evolution of the grand touring concept. Grand touring entries are important in endurance sports-car racing. The grand touring definition implies material differences in performance, speed, comfort, and amenities between elite cars and those of ordinary motorists. Rolls-Royce and Bentley had dominated the GT manufacturing since the early days, yet there are some impressive German cars to consider as well. This segment has expanded to include both two-door and four-door luxury cars from Mercedes, BMW, and even Audi.

1. Mercedes-Benz SL

Mercedes-AMG SL-Class comes with two powertrains which are 4.0L V8 Biturbo gasoline engines. With the SL 55 developing a maximum of 480 HP & 516 lb-ft, similarly the SL 63 developing a maximum of 600 HP & 590 lb-ft. This GT from the Mercedes is one of its kind.

2. Mercedes-Benz 300SL

The 300 SL in coupé form was introduced in 1954, featuring its trademark gullwing doors.  This car has a Mercedes-Benz M198 engine and is a water-cooled 3.0 L. Capable of reaching a top speed of up to 163 mph, it was a sports car racing champion and the fastest production car of its time.

3. Audi RS 7

Power comes from a brilliant twin-turbo 4.0-litre V-8 that pairs with a 48-volt hybrid system, eight-speed automatic transmission, and Quattro all-wheel drive. This GT generates  605 horsepower. However, this GT was one of the company’s fastest of its type.

4. BMW 850CSi

The BMW E31 is the first generation of the BMW 8 Series. It is a GT built by BMW from 1990 to 1999 powered by either a V8 or V12 engine. The M850i uses BMW’s N63 engine, a 4.4L twin-turbocharged V8 which is also used in various other 50i models from 2008 to the present.

This GT has a 4.4-litre BMW M TwinPower Turbo V-8 engine. the 32 valve engine has the capability of generating 523-hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. It has a top speed of 155 mph.

6. Carrera GT

The Porsche Carrera GT is a mid-engine sports car that the German automobile manufacturer Porsche built from 2004 to 2007. Earlier the car had intended to use a turbocharged flat-six engine, but was later redesigned to use a new V10 engine, pushing the project back to planned completion in 2000. In other words the Company decided to make this GT more powerful.

Of course, the 911 GT has always been a great all-rounder worthy of being on this list. It’s comfortable enough to drive everyday, supremely luxurious, and plenty capable around your favorite back road. Mounted in the rear of the 911 is a twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat-six-cylinder engine. The base Carrera has 379 horsepower.
