Jeep Gladiator Specifications & Features
Jeep satisfied the needs of Wrangler owners who desired the fun and flexibility of owning an off-road SUV with a pickup-truck bed connected to its rear quarters with the 2023 Jeep Gladiator. The Gladiator, like the Wrangler on which it is based, has removable doors and a roof, but it also has an increased maximum towing capability of 1000 pounds. Its handling and riding characteristics, like those of its Wrangler sister, make it more suitable for off-road use than typical mid-size trucks like the Honda Ridgeline and Chevrolet Colorado. On paved roads, you pay for that with less polite behavior. Every Gladiator comes equipped with a competent four-wheel-drive system, a 5.0-foot bed, and a four-door cab. A turbodiesel powertrain that significantly increases fuel economy is optional for Gladiators and is offered with a six-speed manual gearbox.
What’s New?
For 2023, Jeep makes only minor changes to the Gladiator Rx, but it has added a limited-edition Freedom package that is available on Sport S trims for an extra $3295. To honor US military personnel, the Freedom package gives the trucks a military-inspired appearance and adds rock sliders and a distinctive steel front bumper. The High Altitude grade comes with a Capability package that adds a front off-road camera, steel rock sliders, and a front bumper with a winching capability. For 2023, further standard amenities including remote start and keyless entry will be added to mid-range Willys models. A brilliant High-Velocity yellow is used instead of the enticing maroon Snazzberry paint.
Jeep Gladiator Engine, Power, Performance & Acceleration
A 3.6-liter V-6 engine that generates 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque drives the Gladiator through a six-speed manual gearbox as standard or an eight-speed automatic gearbox as an option. During testing, an Overland model with an automatic gearbox clocked at 60 mph in 7.2 seconds. In other words, it moves a little more slowly than other rivals. There is a diesel 3.0 liter V6 Gladiator as well, producing 260 horsepower and an impressive 442 pound-feet of torque. The Gladiator has an additional 19.4 inches between the front and rear wheels compared to the standard Wrangler.
According to Jeep, this enhances the pickup’s handling and ride quality. The truck’s handling is imprecise on smooth highways, and the ride can be crowded on bumpy terrain. Nevertheless, these features contribute to what makes the Gladiator a reliable pickup truck and a useful tool for the trails. The truck’s optional off-road equipment, which includes many skid plates, axle ratios that can negotiate rough terrain, and the capacity to ford up to 30 inches of water, is what enthusiasts are particularly interested in. The Gladiator is further helped in conquering uncharted territory by its generous ground clearance and approach/departure angles.
2023 Jeep Gladiator Mileage | City | Highway |
Manual | 16 mpg | 23 mpg |
Automatic | 16 mpg | 22 mpg |
Diesel | 22 mpg | 28 mpg |
Gladiator models with the factory-installed manual gearbox are rated for 16 city and 23 highway miles per gallon. The automatic gearbox lowers the predicted interstate figure to 22 mpg while raising the estimated city mpg to 16. 22 mpg city and 28 mpg highway are the ratings for the diesel variant.

We believe that the Sport S is the best blank slate on which to build our ideal Gladiator. When the tarmac stops, we would opt for all-terrain tires, an anti-spin rear differential, and side stairs to make getting in and out simpler. The three-piece hard top would also win our vote for its speedy roof opening. The larger 8.4-inch touchscreen, which features navigation and is more sophisticated than the original 5.0-inch device, is recommended inside for greater noise and temperature insulation. The Cargo Management pack, auxiliary switches, and an enhanced charging system are some of our other top choices for adding lightbars or other accessories for ultimate Jeepness.
