2023 Lexus GX is suitable for those, whose lifestyle includes the actual driving of trails to off-grid campsites. The GX from Lexus is one luxury SUV, that will take you to your destination, but they’re is an appropriate style. Its truck-like body-on-frame construction, 4.6-Liter V8, and adjustable suspension system will climb over almost any obstacle along the way. While, for the downsides, The GX isn’t very fuel efficient and its on-road behavior is clumsy, not to forget other car-based crossover competitors offer more comfort.
The GX plays in a niche within the mid-size SUV segment for luxury off-roaders which also includes the Land Rover Defender, making the Lexus a unique choice. The cabin hosts standard features such as keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, faux-leather upholstery, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. All GX trims are equipped with driver-assistance amenities such as blind-spot monitoring and lane-keeping assistance.
For the 2023 lineup, the Jap has added a new Black Line Special Edition of the GX. It comes with a ton of blacked-out exterior accents, unique 18-inch wheels, a black interior headliner, and black faux-leather upholstery. The GX also features several new standard amenities, which include a new, larger 10.3-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also, a new parking assistant feature is standard from this year onwards, including in-dash navigation, and power-folding heated exterior mirrors. The desirable Nori Green paint color is now available as an option on the GX for the first time.
Engine & Performance
The 2023 Lexus GX is still offering just one engine: a 4.6-Liter V8 that pumps out a whopping 301-hp and 329 lb-ft of torque. This powerplant is mated with a standard six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Lexus’s Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System is also standard, and this arrangement aims to boost traction during off-roading. The GX galloped from zero to 60 mph during initial testing in 7.2 seconds.
On testing the competition models which are much quicker, perhaps. An Audi Q7 equipped with an available V6 made the run in 6.1 seconds, and a BMW X5 xDrive50i covered the same distance in a mynute 4.2 seconds. The GX’s ride quality is smooth and handling is accurate on paved streets, but it is in its true element when taken off-road. A 6500-pound towing capacity bolsters its versatility.
