Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Specifications & Features
The 2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and plug-in hybrid RAV4 Prime promise to deliver exceptional fuel efficiency to the compact-SUV sector, much like their distant relative, the hybridized Prius hatchback. They are successful. However, their electrified powertrains also have additional advantages, including improved performance. One difference between the two is that both are faster than the non-hybrid RAV4—especially the Prime model, which astonishingly has a top speed faster than a four-cylinder Supra sports car. Unfortunately, the RAV4 Hybrid’s handling isn’t sports-car sharp; in fact, the opposite is true, as its apathetic road manners are unlikely to appeal to drivers who value agility in their daily vehicle. The Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, and Kia Sportage are available for people who want a little more control over their driving experience. Keep in mind that we’re talking about mainstream SUVs here, not performance sedans. They all also provide hybrid models.
What’s New?
For 2023, a brand-new, rugged Woodland Edition of the RAV4 Hybrid will be added to the range. The Woodland Edition has special all-season floor mats with the Woodland Edition emblem along with all-terrain tires, a TRD suspension kit, bronze-colored rims, a roof rack, mud flaps, and black exterior badging. The only available exterior colors are white, blue, and black. The updated Toyota infotainment system, which is a welcome improvement over the previous models, is now standard on all models and supports over-the-air updates in addition to wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Engine, Power, Acceleration & Performance
219 horsepower is produced by the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors working together to power the RAV4 Hybrid. The front and rear wheels are driven by the gasoline engine and the second electric motor, respectively, while the CVT and AWD are both standard. The RAV4 Hybrid is faster than the non-hybrid version in addition to being more efficient. While the gas-only vehicle required 8.0 seconds to reach 60 mph, the Woodland Edition model completed the feat in 7.3 seconds. The electric motor’s gratifyingly instantaneous power delivery gives it an extra kick when starting from a halt in town, so drivers will also notice that pep. The Prime model will give you even more performance if you request it.

The hybrid RAV4 is a lot more effective than an all-wheel-drive petrol version. According to the EPA, it will get 41 mpg in the city, 38 mpg on the highway, and 40 mpg overall, outperforming the standard RAV4 by 14 mpg, 5 mpg, and 11 mpg, respectively. The EPA puts the plug-in hybrid RAV4 Prime’s electric-only driving range at 42 miles, and it has an 18.1 kWh battery pack that stores its electrons. On the Prime XSE, an optional 6.6-kWh onboard charger reduces the time needed to fully charge to 2.5 hours using a 240-volt outlet from the regular 3.3-kWh onboard charger. It will take around 12 hours to fully charge a device if there is only a 120-volt outlet available.

The infotainment screen on LE and XLE models is 8.0 inches, while the screens on XSE, Limited, and Prime XSE versions are 10.5 inches. An onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity are all included as standard. A larger 12.3-inch digital gauge display is offered on the XLE Premium but is standard on Limited and Prime XSE trims. Most models also include a 7.0-inch digital gauge display. There is a navigation system and an 11-speaker JBL audio system offered. Otherwise, a six-speaker system will be provided.

The RAV4 Prime is a no-brainer if you are eligible for the $7500 electric vehicle tax credit because the government’s financial incentive significantly reduces its price and you get a RAV4 with higher power and a sizable electric-only driving range. The XSE is the more feature-rich of the two Prime variants, boasting 19-inch alloys, a sunroof, and an infotainment system with a larger 10.5-inch touchscreen as standard equipment. If you’re not eligible for the tax credit, we suggest the XLE Hybrid because it comes with more standard features than the base LE without significantly increasing the price. The XLE’s features include passive keyless entry, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, LED projector headlights with automatic high beams, heated exterior mirrors, blind-spot monitoring, and front fog lamps.

Conclusion
Although the RAV4 Hybrid is effective, swift, comfortable, and practical, it is more known for its ability to save on petrol than for its style. Desirable infotainment features are standard, and the cabin is roomier and quicker than the non-hybrid RAV4. The base model is sparse, the top PHEV variant costs more, and it has just average road manners.
