Acura ZDX Acceleration & Features
Acura is embarking on its electric journey by reviving a name from its history: ZDX. Unlike the original ZDX, which debuted in 2010 with a gas engine and a fastback design that arguably led the way for its time. The new 2024 Acura ZDX SUV embraces a more traditional two-box SUV configuration. The redesigned ZDX’s aesthetics are intriguing, featuring a floating roof, sleek body sides, and an illuminated border accentuating the faux grille. Acura’s parent company Honda and General Motors collaborated to create this revitalized ZDX, utilizing GM’s Ultium battery technology. Initial reports suggested the Acura ZDX would share its electric powertrains with the Cadillac Lyriq SUV and be manufactured alongside it at GM’s Springhill, Tennessee assembly plant.
What’s New?
The 2024 model year sees the revival of the ZDX nameplate, now adorning Acura’s inaugural all-electric SUV. This marks a clear shift from traditional internal-combustion engines to electric propulsion. Yet it’s worth noting that Acura hasn’t forsaken its performance-oriented audience, as evidenced by the inclusion of a dynamic Type S variant. For Acura enthusiasts who relish exhilarating driving experiences, this development is noteworthy. Additionally, the reappearance of the nameplate holds significance, considering its initial appearance in the 2009 coupe-like SUV. Moreover, this introduction serves as Acura’s debut in the realm of electric vehicles.
Acura ZDX Motor, Battery, Range & Performance
Shifting the focus to the ZDX lineup, we find the introductory A-Spec model, equipped with a 340 horsepower motor propelling the rear wheels. Optionally, this model offers a second motor, which, while not augmenting the overall horsepower, introduces all-wheel drive capability. However, capturing our attention is the more dynamic Type S variant that comes standard with two motors and all-wheel drive. The Type S variant’s electric motors have been fine-tuned to deliver an impressive combined 500 horsepower. Additionally, it showcases an air suspension system with adaptive dampers, complemented by Brembo brakes and 22-inch wheels. Interestingly, for enthusiasts, the ZDX Type S offers the choice of summer tires, though standard all-season tires remain an option.
Utilizing GM’s Ultium battery technology, the ZDX will incorporate the identical 102.0-kWh battery pack found in the Lyriq. This battery delivers an impressive driving range of up to 325 miles in the A-Spec variant. Although the Type S model offers a slightly lower range at 288 miles per charge. Standardized with DC fast charging, the ZDX is capable of rapid charging at rates reaching 190 kW. Allowing the Acura ZDX to gain 81 miles of range within a mere 10 minutes for the single-motor A-Spec model.

Dominating the center of the ZDX’s dashboard is an impressive 11.3-inch infotainment display, exuding a sense of pride. Complementing this, a second 11.0-inch gauge-cluster display is snugly positioned within the binnacle, just in front of the steering wheel. Notably, standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto seamlessly integrate. What sets the infotainment system apart is its foundation on Google’s Android Automotive in-vehicle hardware, with Google Maps as the default navigation. Across all ZDX models, an exquisite Bang & Olufsen stereo system, boasting 14 speakers, some discreetly tucked behind elegant brushed aluminum grilles, comes as a standard feature.

Although the ZDX’s MPGe estimates are currently pending release by the EPA, we anticipate them to align closely with Lyriq’s figures. The Lyriq boasts ratings of up to 95 MPGe in the city and 82 MPGe on the highway.

The range-topping Type S model is a strong recommendation from us. Drawing from our familiarity with the Cadillac Lyriq, a platform-mate of the ZDX, we anticipate that the Type S’s added power will provide the lively acceleration that EV drivers commonly seek. However, it’s important to note that this comes at the expense of a reduced range. For those concerned about driving range limitations, the single-motor A-Spec trim emerges as the preferred choice.
