BMW i5 Specifications & Features
The mid-size 2024 BMW i5 sedan, which will bridge the gap between the 10Best Award-winning i4 and the extra-premium i7 flagship, will electrify BMW’s executive express. The i5 is anticipated to combine luxurious amenities with a fun driving experience, just like those two EV four-doors. Beginning with a rear-drive eDrive40 variant with 335 horsepower, two powertrains will be available. A robust 590 horsepower is added by the dual-motor M60 xDrive, which also delivers all-wheel drive traction. The i5 competes with an increasing number of medium-sized premium electric vehicles designed to appeal to wealthy customers seeking eco-friendly options. They include market leaders like the Tesla Model S and the Porsche Taycan, as well as the Genesis Electrified G80 and the Mercedes-Benz EQE.
What’s New?
The i5 offers an electric vehicle (EV) option for customers considering BMW’s mid-size sedan lineup and making its debut alongside a brand-new version of the gasoline-powered 5-series. It should be available in BMW shops by the end of 2023. The interior of the i5 is equally as roomy and luxurious as the 5-series fueled by petrol. The battery doesn’t obstruct the interior, although the trunk is a little bit smaller than it was in the 5-series. A set of glass interior controls is also available and gives the sedan’s interior a sophisticated touch. Leather upholstery is still an option, but BMW is introducing a new faux-leather upholstery called Veganza in the i5.
BMW i5 Motor, Battery, Range & Performance
There are two i5 variants available, the first of which is the 335-hp eDrive40, which uses a single electric motor to drive the rear wheels. For a combined 590 horsepower, a second electric motor is added to the front axle of a hotter M60 xDrive variant. We were delighted by the i5 M60’s nimble handling, confidence-inspiring levels of cornering grip, and robust dual-motor powertrain while we were testing a prototype of the sedan. According to BMW, the i5 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 3.7 seconds using the more potent of the two powertrains. Active anti-roll bars, a sportier suspension setting, bigger tires, and rear-wheel steering are further features added to M60 versions to further enhance the car’s athletic appearance.
Under the i5’s floorboards is an 84.3-kWh battery pack that BMW claims can power the eDrive40 model for 295 miles between charges. The M60 variant with dual motors is less effective and has a 256-mile estimated range on a single charge. The battery pack of the car can be connected to DC fast-charging stations and is said to be able to charge from 10 to 80 percent on such a connection in 30 minutes. Speaking of charging, every new i5 from BMW will come with three years’ worth of cost-free 30-minute charging sessions at Electrify America charging points.

Pricing
2024 BMW i5 Trims | Price (USD) |
eDrive40 | $67,795 |
M60 xDrive | $85,095 |
The eDrive40 will be able to cruise for a little while longer than the performance-oriented M60 model if you’re aiming to maximize range. But because we enjoy driving, we’d willingly sacrifice a little range for more power and cornering grip.
