Mercedes Benz CLA-Class Specifications & Features
First on the ladder of Mercedes-Benz car ownership is the 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class sedan. Even though it is an entry-level model, it still exudes the brand-specific air of occasion. Mercedes has equipped its smallest car with a pleasantly comfortable suspension system, a modestly luxurious interior, and a respectable powertrain consisting of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a turbocharger and a belt-driven starter-generator. This year’s mild hybrid system is brand-new, and Mercedes claims it supports low-rpm power output. The hybrid technology, though, isn’t designed for all-out performance like the rest of the CLA. The more potent Mercedes-AMG CLA is the vehicle to choose if you’re looking for driving thrills wrapped up in a CLA body. With a starting price that is quite low for a size-small sedan, the basic CLA gives the appearance and feel of a larger Mercedes.
What’s New?
For the 2024 model year, the Mercedes-Benz CLA-class receives a minor update that comprises a redesigned front end with a new grille and a modified rear end that features a new diffuser. The Mirror Package and Parking Package, which were previously options, are now part of the standard package. Two new exterior color options—Hyper Blue and Starling Blue—as well as new interior trim components and lighted USB ports, are among the other modifications. The optional Burmester audio system from the German carmaker now features Dolby Atmos software. The German sedan’s turbocharged four-cylinder engine has been converted to a hybrid configuration and is now connected to a starter generator that is operated by a belt.
Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class Engine, Power, Acceleration & Performance
A hybridized 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a belt-driven starter-generator and a 48-volt power source powers all Mercedes-Benz CLA-class cars. The maximum output remains at 221 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Mercedes asserts that the hybrid technology boosts output by 13 horsepower at lower revs. A seven-speed automated gearbox is used to change gears. FWD is the default and AWD is an option. In testing, a 2020 AWD CLA250 4Matic vehicle without the new model’s hybrid technology accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in a brisk 5.6 seconds but felt less peppy in urban areas. With well-calibrated steering, minimal body roll during turns, and a pleasingly solid brake pedal, the CLA-Class has refined handling.

EPA ratings for the 2024 CLA-Class are not yet available, but given the addition of hybrid technology, we anticipate seeing significantly better numbers. For comparison, 2023 cars with front-wheel drive are rated at 25/36 mpg city/highway, while all-wheel drive variants are rated at 24/33 mpg. Although such numbers are competitive for the sector, the Audi A3 offers superior fuel efficiency (up to 29/38 mpg).

The CLA-class has the most recent infotainment system from Mercedes-Benz, as well as a control pad positioned on the console and a steering wheel with a touchpad. Front-wheel drive is standard on the CLA250, while all-wheel drive is standard on the CLA250 4Matic. For individuals who frequently drive on wet, slick roads, the later trim is a nice option, but we believe the CLA250 will satisfy everyone else. It has 18-inch wheels, automatic LED headlights, a sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, and heated power-adjustable side-view mirrors with integrated turn signals, among other aesthetic features. The 12-way power-adjustable front seats, the manually adjustable tilt-and-telescoping steering column, the Nappa leather-wrapped steering wheel, keyless entry and push-button ignition, and GPS are among the standard inside features. Automated emergency braking is a regular element of driver assistance systems.
