If anybody will hear the word Sports Cars, first thing that comes to mind is powerful engines with exotic horse power, stylish looks, high top speed and much more. But not everyone of them contains a powerful engine some sports cars comes with a boring truck or economy car engine and you may be thinking why so. The reason behind this is mainly cost-saving, or you can say it can be just plain laziness. When someone hears the name of multinational automotive companies like McLaren, Koenigsegg, Dodge and Lotus, they would think that these are the supercars that comes with big V8 or V10 engines. But it is not so as these cars also reserve their spots in this list.

1. McLaren F1 – BMW M70 V12
The first Sports car that makes this list is McLaren F1. Looking powerful by its name F1 doesn’t seem so good when it comes to its engine, a V12 engine which is sourced from older version cars like BMW 750i and 850i. Even though equipped with an older version engine a V12 still is a big thing in this category, it’s the reason why McLaren F1 had touched the 240 mph top speed and 0-60 mph in 3.2 sec. and held the record for nearly 3 decades. It can still power 618 hp and have a base price of around $1.4 million.
2. De Tomaso Pantera – Ford 5.8L Cleveland V8
Made with the perspective of giving competition to Ferrari, the Italian manufacturer De Tomaso made the partnership with Ford for an engine, the same engine which was used in Ford F150. The 5.8L V8 powers this car to 335 hp and giving the 0-60 mph time as 5.5 sec. The Italian supercar comes with a top speed of 160 mph and today its market value is nearly $200,000.
3. Noble M400 – Ford Duratec V6
Coming with a Duratec V6 powered engine Noble M400 and Ford Focus shares the same type of engine. Noble is a UK based company that modified the Duratec engine using twin turbos, and forged pistons which resulted in its increased horse power of 400 hp. Having a price tag of $94,250 with a V6 engine helps this car to a top speed of 188 mph and 0-60 mph time of 3.5 sec.

4. Venturi 400GT – Peugeot PRV V6
Not many have heard the name of Venturi as only 100 units of these cars were ever built and only 15 of them were used on-road. The 3.0L PRV V6 engine that was used in the Peugeot sedans, that same engine was used in Venturi 400GT. Peugeot, Alpine, Chevron, and Venturi used this engine in their racing cars. Venturi 400GT had a top speed of 180 mph and produces 408 hp along with an acceleration of 0-60 mph in 3.9 sec. This car’s market value can be between $137,000 and $230,000.
5. Lotus Elise – Toyota ZZ Inline 4
The Lotus has always been an elegant type of car but does not provide much reliability to their customers. So they have decided to power the Elise with the Toyota engines. This little car boasts an inline-4 that generates 243 hp, attains a top speed of 140 mph, and an acceleration time of 0-60 mph as 3.9 sec. Its retail price is $97,990.

6. Koenigsegg CCR – Ford Modular V8
The CCR was equipped by the same engine as of Ford Mustang GT. Koenigsegg had taken a 4.6L V8 engine and modified it by adding two roots-type superchargers which made a huge 655 hp. On its launching CCR held the record for the fastest production car for about a month, thanks to its 241 mph top speed and could hit 0-60 mph in 3.5 sec. $1.65 million is the price of Koenigsegg CCR.
7. Spyker C8 – Audi V8
Not very much automobile companies are from Dutch background, but exception is Spyker C8. This car features a hand-built interior and well-tuned sports suspension. The motor used in this Dutch car is same as that of used in Audi. Its V8 engine powers this car to a 395 hp and takes it to a top speed of 186 mph. With a base price of $350,000 this car accelerates from 0-60 mph in 4.5 sec.

8. Dodge Viper – Dodge Magnum V10
Same engine as a pickup truck in a sports car, how can we imagine that. But it is a Dodge Viper V10 engine that is the same as that of a Magnum V10. Designed by Lamborghini the V10 engine powers Viper to a 400 hp. It helps in attaining a top speed of 206 mph and a 0-60 acceleration time of 3.5 sec. This car has a price tag of $100,000.
