The Ford Mustang’s seventh generation was born and raised in the world of racing. Ford previewed a number of race cars based on the V-8-powered muscle car when it initially unveiled the 2024 Mustang, including the NHRA drag racer and the Dark Horse R track toy. The Mustang GT4, which will be the entry-level car for drivers wishing to polish their skills in wheel-to-wheel competition, has now been completely unveiled by Ford at the 24 Hours of Spa. While the GT3 will be driven by a factory-backed team in IMSA’s GTD Pro class. Ford’s Mustang made its GT4 racing debut in 2017.

Ford Mustang GT4 Engine, Power, Performance & Acceleration

Ford closely collaborated on the GT4 with Canadian engineering powerhouse Multimatic. Which built the most recent Ford GT and created other limited-edition Aston Martins, including the Valkyrie. Under the hood is a Coyote-based V-8 that Ford Performance built internally and has been optimized for racing. Ford will also construct it in Dearborn, Michigan, although it didn’t offer any other engine details.

The GT4 has Multimatic spool-valve dampers and is lighter due to its natural fiber bodywork. The Hollinger dog-ring gearbox has paddle shifters with pneumatic actuation for shifting. And the aerodynamics are customized for the GT4 class. Although the diffuser is much more subdued than on the GT3 and there are fewer vents carved into the narrower fenders, the GT4 still has a sizable rear wing that protrudes from the trunk lid.
