The 2023 Ferrari Portofino M hardtop convertible is one of Ferrari’s more understated models. Aiming for both high-speed thrills and easy cruising on sunny days. Due to a surprisingly smooth ride and coordinated handling, it has fluid driving dynamics. It acts submissively in public. Yet the Portofino is prepared if you want to amp up the thrill. With an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and a twin-turbo V8 that produces 612 horsepower and 561 lb-ft of torque, it has the power to propel its svelte sheet metal into the air. It even features a “racing” driving mode. We estimate that the fierce power delivery is enough push it to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds. And of course, the Portofino struts attention-getting design and a handsome interior slathered in rich leather. It even hints at practicality with a tiny rear seat. But not too much practicality. This is a Ferrari, after all.

What’s New?

For the 2023 model year, Ferrari hasn’t made any alterations to the Portofino M hard-top convertible. Inside, the Portofino’s gorgeous design and exquisite materials excite the eyes. The gorgeous leather that covers its many surfaces is sewn together, and the front seats’ 18-way power adjustments are contoured to be supportive and comfortable. Moreover, the buckets can have ventilation and neck-warming features. Neat. When the top is down, a useful wind deflector also helps keep the cabin quiet while driving quickly. The convertible Ferrari can theoretically carry up to four guests thanks to a pair of small bucket seats behind the front occupants.

The twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8 that is concealed beneath the Portofino’s protruding hood is an exceptional Ferrari engine that is as much of a brand differentiator as its exterior design. The engine uses an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to deliver 612 horsepower and 561 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. What’s most impressive, however, isn’t the claimed top speed of “nearly 199 mph” or the projected duration from zero to 60 mph, which we estimate to be 3.1 seconds. The Portofino’s exhaust tips burst into song as the tachometer needle climbs towards the engine’s redline of 7500 rpm. It is an unforgettable tone. The Portofino M displays the convertible’s smooth ride quality and impressive body control thanks to its fine-tuned adaptive dampers. Every Portofino also has carbon-ceramic brakes, ensuring that this large GT can be brought to a stop swiftly.

A Ferrari’s infotainment system is similar to a Buick’s spare tyre: it’s good to have when you need it, but nobody will ever inquire about it. Nonetheless, the Portofino has a 10.2-inch touchscreen installed in the middle of the dashboard. During our brief time with it, we found it to be responsive, and the front passenger may examine performance information and even control the navigation system with an optional touchscreen.

Ferrari makes life simple by limiting your options in a world where certain high-end brands, like Porsche, provide dizzyingly large lists of add-ons. Our car would be equipped with the optional heated and ventilated front seats, as well as the advanced driver technology, which includes automatic high lights, adaptive cruise control, and other features. Although Ferrari includes aluminium footrests and a passenger display, we don’t think these features are really necessary. The exterior, interior, brake callipers, instruments, exhaust pipes, and wheel style can all be customised in addition to those few possibilities.
