Overview

2023 Mercedes-AMG GT sedan provides the performance and feels in a way that only a few four-doors can. It is based on the E-class wagon, mechanically; not the GT sports car. With the sporty handling for such a large vehicle, which is excellent in the most aggressive models. The surplus is that you can bring three passengers along with your joy rides.

The V8-equipped GT63 and GT63 S models are back after taking a year-long break. These variants of the GT sedan sport the same styling updates that the GT43 and GT53 models received last year. Also, a range-crossing GT63 S E-Performance model is added to the lineup which has a whopping 830-hp plug-in hybrid powertrain. The large console between the seats makes the cockpit feel sporty and the overall interior design is futuristic and exciting. The sports seats are standard being aggressively bolstered and comfortable. While the fat and flat-bottomed steering wheel, aluminum trim, and digital gauge cluster suit the sedan’s high-performance vibe.

The build quality is excellent, and the fine materials are in line with AMG’s pricing. The AMG’s infotainment system is quite capable but is complicated and frustrating to use. The 12.3-inch screen is massive, and Apple CarPlay integration is standard along with wireless phone charging and navigation. Onboard Wi-Fi is also available with a rear-seat central touchscreen display. The front area sports three USB ports, and with are two more in the back. The AMG GT sedan has plenty of active safety-tech systems which include parking sensors, a Mercedes Pre-Safe system, automatic high-beams, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Both the GT43 and GT53 boast a solid 3.0L inline-six-cylinder engine that sports a turbocharger, an intercooler, an electric supercharger, and a small electric motor. The engine offers a combined 429 hp in the GT53 and hits you with the g-force whenever the throttle is pressed. The engine is mated with a conventional nine-speed automatic transmission and can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds and has a top speed of 174 mph. The GT63 and GT63 S are powered by a robust 4.0L V8. It offers 575 hp in the GT63, and is topped up to 630 hp in the GT63 S. Both the GT43 and GT53 are EPA rated for 19 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.

The GT 43 starts at $95,000 and can rocket up if you opt for the powerful GT63 S E Performance variant for $190,000.
