Mercedes-Benz EQB Specifications & Features
For every swoon-worthy EV that enters the market today, there are less glamorous models like the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB that are so close to their gas-burning counterparts that switching to an electric lifestyle is practically effortless for uninformed drivers. The EQB, which is based on the ungainly GLB-class SUV, replaces the turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an electric motor. The only visual evidence of the EQB’s EV status is little visual cues like blue highlights on the wheels and a black plastic plate covering the front end where an open grille should be. Okay, so its all-electric range isn’t quite as good—the highest estimate is just 250 miles per charge—so EQB owners will likely visit charging stations more frequently than their GLB-driving neighbors.
What’s New?
For 2023, a new entry-level model, the EQB250+, is added to the lineup. It has a single 188-hp electric motor that powers the front wheels and provides a longer driving range of 250 miles. The EQB300 and EQB350 models are unchanged this year, according to Mercedes-Benz. With only a few modifications that set it apart from the gas-powered model, Mercedes has transferred the interior from the GLB-class SUV to the EQB. Five people can fit across two rows of seats, and a third row of chairs can optionally come up. The EQB’s cabin has a premium appearance thanks to nicely finished door panels, plush leather upholstery, and shiny metal trim.
Mercedes-Benz EQB Motor, Battery, Range & Performance
The EQB250+, which has a 188-hp electric motor and is FWD, is the entry-level model. By upgrading to the EQB300, you may get AWD and an electric drivetrain with 225 hp more power. However, the dual-motor EQB350, which has 288 horsepower, is the only option if you want the fastest EQB. The EQB and the gas-powered GLB share chassis components, but the EQB is much heavier and has a more stable ride. The EQB350 felt faster than the GLB250 and more comparable to the 302 horsepower AMG GLB35 during our brief drive in it. During testing, the EQB350 reached 60 mph in 5.4 seconds, a fraction of a second slower than the GLB35 but a fraction of a second faster than the Audi Q4 e-tron.
The EQB has a 66.5 kWh battery under the floor, however depending on the model you select, its range varies. The EQB300 and EQB250+ models have slightly greater ranges of 242 and 250 miles, respectively than the more potent EQB350, which is expected to give 227 miles of range per charge. The EQB can be recharged at a DC fast-charging public station or home using a Level 2 connection. According to Mercedes, the vehicle can charge from 10% to 80% in as little as 30 minutes when using the DC connection.

Inside the EQB, Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX infotainment system is on display. For its audio, navigation, and other features, it includes a touchscreen, voice control, and steering-wheel controls. The UI can be difficult to use at times, especially with the voice assistant’s overly excited responses that appear whenever you speak the word “Mercedes.” Additionally, the navigation has a feature that makes it simpler for drivers to locate EV charging stations.

The EQB is available in three different variants, although they are all the same. The 225-hp EQB300, which boasts a range of up to 242 miles per charge, struck us as having the best balance. The loaded Pinnacle trim level, which amps up the luxury with a panoramic sunroof and an expensive Burmester music system, is what we’d choose.
