Honda Civic Specifications & Features
The 2024 Honda Civic has our hearts for some solid reasons. It’s not just efficient and stylish, but it’s also a blast to drive. Picture this: the Civic, standing tall as the ultimate compact car, outshining rivals like the Hyundai Elantra and Mazda 3 for being wallet-friendly and downright practical for day-to-day cruising. Now, here’s the fun part – you’ve got choices! Starting with a peppy 158-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the base models and kicking it up a notch with a beefier 180-horsepower turbocharged 1.5-liter engine. And wait for it—standard touchscreen entertainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Honda’s fancy driver-assistance features. Okay, it might not rev as high as the performance champs, Civic Si, and Civic Type R, but this regular Civic? It’s a taste of driving brilliance with its smooth moves and classy road manners.
What’s New?
On the test track, our turbocharged Touring sedan clocked in at 7.5 seconds to reach 60 mph, a tad behind the previous generation Civic’s performance. Conversely, the manual Sport Touring hatchback fared slightly better, accomplishing the sprint in 7.3 seconds. Fortunately, the agile handling, responsive steering, and harmoniously balanced ride, aspects we cherished in the prior model, remain intact here. Notably, the Sporty Si and the high-performance Type-R variants are back in the lineup, each warranting a separate review. Embracing these nuances, it’s evident that the driving experience retains its essence, despite nuanced variations in acceleration times across different models.
Honda Civic Engine, Power & Performance
Despite the 2022 redesign of the Civic, its powertrain options remain consistent with the previous generation. Base models now feature a standard 158-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder, while the upgraded engine is a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder, boasting an increased 180 horsepower. The redesigned Civic is exclusively available as a front-wheel-drive vehicle. Regrettably, the manual transmission, a feature in the prior generation Civic sedan, has been omitted for 2022, leaving the CVT as the singular option. Notably, the hatchback model still retains the availability of a six-speed manual. These changes reflect a shift in the transmission offerings, aligning with contemporary driving preferences and the evolving landscape of automotive technology.
On the test track, our turbocharged Touring sedan clocked 7.5 seconds to hit 60 mph, a tad behind the previous-gen Civic. The manual Sport Touring hatchback edged it slightly, taking 7.3 seconds to reach 60 mph. Fortunately, the nimble handling, responsive steering, and balanced ride we loved in the last-gen model remain intact. Both the sporty Si and the seriously high-performance Type-R variants are back in action, rounding out the family. Transitioning to the new model, acceleration nuances aside, the driving dynamics that made the previous iteration memorable are reassuringly present.
