Mini plans to launch a new generation of its iconic Cooper hatchback, with the 2025 Mini Cooper Electric taking the lead. While they’ll still offer a gasoline-powered Cooper, Mini is showcasing its electric prowess with this initial release. The fresh Cooper Electric flaunts a stylish blend of modern and vintage aesthetics, paying homage to Mini’s heritage in its design. Under the hood, a single electric motor powers the front wheels, boasting a larger battery for an extended driving range, a notable upgrade from the previous electric Mini. Globally, you’ll have two choices: the 184-hp Cooper E and the 218-hp Cooper SE. Mini has also drawn from its historical wellspring for the interior makeover, featuring a prominent circular infotainment display at the dashboard’s center, giving the cabin a truly distinctive feel.

Mini Cooper Electric Motor, Battery & Range
Starting with the basics, the entry-level Cooper E models boast an 181-hp electric motor. On the other hand, the SE models kick it up a notch with a more robust 215-horsepower motor. When we tested a prototype of the SE, we were genuinely impressed by its lively handling and brisk acceleration. It’s worth noting that Mini hasn’t officially confirmed if both models will make it to the U.S. market. However, if we had to guess, the SE seems like the likely choice, given its extra power. Mini has stated that the SE can sprint to 62 mph in just 6.7 seconds. Looking ahead, there’s potential for an even mightier dual-motor all-wheel-drive version sporting the All4 badge, boasting an impressive 313 horsepower.
Rumor has it that a John Cooper Works high-performance trim might also be in the works. On the battery front, the Cooper E is equipped with a 28.9-kWh battery pack. While the SEs get a larger 58.4-kWh pack. This should provide a solid 200-mile range on a single charge.
Mini Cooper Electric Mileage
Both Mini and the EPA have yet to disclose the fuel economy estimates for the new Cooper Electric. However, we anticipate it might demonstrate a slight improvement in efficiency compared to its predecessor. To provide context, the 2024 Cooper Electric achieved ratings as high as 110 MPGe.
