The E-Legend EL1 EV is a high-performance coupe boasting 816hp, paying homage to the legendary Audi Quattro S1 rally car. This limited-edition electric vehicle, limited to just 30 units, serves as a tribute to an iconic original. While debates continue over buying or building the best cars, the EL1 exemplifies the latter, a brand-new EV inspired by a legendary predecessor. Although this isn’t the finished product, it offers a glimpse of what lies beneath. It is powered by three electric motors and a 90kWh battery. It claims an impressive 0-100kph time of 2.8 seconds, making it a highly exclusive and compelling addition to the electric car landscape.

E-Legend EL1 Design

The E-Legend EL1’s creation has a fascinating backstory. Marcus Holzinger, the head of E-Legend, is a former Volkswagen designer with years of experience. His father, an Audi modeler in the 1980s, contributed to the iconic Sport Quattro. This was a rally car was a homologation from a shortened road car. This inspired Marcus, to create a modern reinterpretation of a Group B legend, the Sport Quattro. The EL1 draws design cues from the Audi Quattro S1 rally car, featuring angular styling, flared wheel arches, and a distinctive bulging bonnet. It blends these classic elements with modern touches like LED lighting, and a bespoke spoiler.

E-Legend’s mission with the EL1 is to provide emotional driving experience of analogue cars and the modern world of EVs. This retrofuturistic full-electric supercar is built upon a lightweight carbon monocoque and features iconic design elements. This includes the distinctive Quattro flared wheel arches reinterpreted by noted automotive designer Martin Smith. The EL1 aims to deliver both track-ready performance and everyday usability, combining cutting-edge technology with a passion for motorsport and retro-futuristic aesthetics. The name “Ur-Quattro” pays homage to the original ’80s Quattro, signifying its pioneering AWD configuration.

Battery and Performance

The EL1 gets 804 Hp, distributed with 268 Hp to the front and 536 to the rear, 774 pound-feet of torque. Its estimated performance figures include a swift 2.8-second sprint from 0 to 62 mph, continuing to 124 mph in 7.5 seconds, and a top speed of 186 mph. However, the prototype version falls slightly short, currently delivering 603 horsepower with a fixed 35/65 front-rear torque split. The production model will feature a mechanical limited-slip differential at the rear and possibly one at the front. The EL1 relies on a 90.0 kWh battery and three electric motors, offering an estimated range of 249 miles. E-Legend plans to handcraft the first 30 EL1 units in 2023, with two more limited-production rally-inspired models to follow.

E-Legend plans to bring the iconic Audi Sport Quattro’s magic back to life with the EL1. The German startup has unveiled the first physical model of this electric supercar, set to enter production in 2023. Each EL1, limited to just 30 units, will undergo meticulous handcrafting in Bavaria and will carry a price tag of $907,460 (€890,000) in Germany. This homage to the legendary rally car is poised to make a powerful statement in the world of electric performance vehicles.
