Hyundai Verna Safety rating and specifications

The Hyundai Verna has achieved an impressive 5-star safety rating in the Global NCAP test, marking a significant milestone for Hyundai. This rating makes it the first Hyundai model sold in India to receive such high safety recognition. The tested model comes with essential safety features like six airbags, ESC, rear ISOFIX mounts, and seat belt reminders. The Verna performed exceptionally well in both adult and child occupant protection, earning a 5-star rating for both categories. This achievement underscores Hyundai’s commitment to safety, making the Verna a reassuring choice for Indian car buyers.

The Hyundai Verna earned an impressive 5-star rating for adult occupant protection, scoring 28.18 out of 34 points. The Verna demonstrated commendable protection for the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck in frontal impact tests. Even the chest protection for the driver was rated as marginal, with passenger chest protection deemed good. However, concerns arose regarding the bodyshell’s instability in withstanding further loadings. The knee and footwell areas also raised some issues, with marginal protection for the knees and an unstable footwell area. In side impact and side pole impact tests, the Verna offered good protection to various body parts, including the head, pelvis, and abdomen, albeit with some areas rated as adequate or marginal. Despite these concerns, the Verna’s overall 5-star rating underscores its commitment to passenger safety.

Child Occupant Safety

In the child occupant crash test rating, the Hyundai Verna excelled with a score of 42 out of 49 points. This includes a perfect 12 out of 12 points for the Child Restraint System (CRS) installation and a full 24 out of 24 points in the dynamic score. Global NCAP conducted tests with dummies representing an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old child, both seated facing rearward and secured using i-size anchorages and a support leg. The CRS effectively prevented head exposure during frontal and side impacts, ensuring comprehensive protection. The Verna comes with standard 3-point seat belts for all seats. It’s worth noting that the front passenger airbag cannot be disengaged when a rearward-facing CRS is installed. Although a CRS failure occurred after the initial side impact test, the manufacturer identified it as an isolated incident.
