Overview
Most Humorous Car Advertisements show how creative and funny these brands are when it comes to marketing. These days most of the brands show off a car’s capabilities, engine size, power output, and fuel economy. While useful, this is quite boring compared to automotive advertisements of the past. Automakers compete with each other on a global scale while their dealerships would battle locally, using billboards and banners.
10. Porsche 911
Porsche has a well-known history of making hilarious and clever advertisements for their 911 sports car. One such ad was where they asked the audience if they ‘honestly’ spent their youth dreaming of owning cars from lesser manufacturers such as Mitsubishi or Nissan. This is quite funny as these automakers made pretty boring cars during this time with the odd exception of the Skyline GT-R and 3000GT.
9. BMW M3 E36
Making great adverts is BMW’s influential thing, with recent commercials like the BMW iX Superbowl spot, featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger as Zeus retiring to Palm Springs. Their ads are simply extravagant!!! One bold printed ad was when the E36-generation BMW M3 was launched.
BMW had all the best cars lined up in the image, claiming M3 was the best-handling car in the US. The lineup included a Porsche 911 and a Ferrari F355.

8. Volvo Turbo Wagon
Volvo had awesome cars and they have defined the brand since. A family loved its practicality along with the performance they would need. There was an advertisement once, where Volvo compared a Turbo Wagon to a Lamborghini Countach towing a trailer, claiming that the Volvo had the same level of performance, but could carry a trailer’s worth of cargo.
7. Citroën 2CV
One of the most influential cars ever made, the Citroën 2CV is on par with the Volkswagen Beetle and Lada Riva. Defining an entire country’s automotive industry, and bringing personal transportation to the masses. The 2CV had many printed ads, but one Citroën compared the 2CV with a Ferrari Mondial, a Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit, and a Porsche 911, claiming that various aspects of the 2CV were better than these cars.

6. Audi R8 GT (Lake Forest, IL)
Audi’s first and only supercar, the R8 competes with the likes of Italians like Ferrari 458 and Lamborghini Gallardo. The R8 shares the same platform as the Gallardo but was easier to drive and use every day. After releasing the R8 GT, it was quite a big deal. Limited to 333 R8 GTs, and when a customer bought one in Lake Forest, Illinois, the local Audi dealership made sure everyone knew about it. The ad reads, “Attention, Lake Forest, Il, an Audi R8 GT has been sold in your town. Slow traffic keep right.”
5. Porsche 911 Police Car
This time a 911 Police Car advert. All praise the Autobahn, German cars are capable of driving at their top speeds on a public road, which meant that if anyone tried to flee after committing a crime and used the Autobahn as an escape route, the German Polizei would need to keep up. So, they used 911 and Porsche took advantage of this and created a wise ad about it.

4. Daihatsu Hijet MPV
Also known as Mitsubishi Jetstar, Subaru Sambar, and Toyota Pixis is a small Kei car designed to be a minivan, MPV, and pick-up truck. Powered by a series of engines, mostly small inline-3s and inline-4s. And for marketing this little supermini, Daihatsu went a bit further than expected and compared this 40 hp van to a 500 hp Lamborghini, claiming superior interior space.
3. Jaguar XJS
The Jaguar XJS was designed to replace the E-Type and was available with either a 3.6-liter inline-6 or a 5.3-liter V12. Updating the XJS throughout its life, but by the late 1980s, it was outdated and overpriced. The marketing was extensive and one advert showed the legendary Jaguar XJR-6 race car, along with the XJSC convertible and the normal XJS. This implies that the XJS was related to, or had some of the racecars’ automotive spirit.

2. Ford Vs Chevy
The Ford vs Chevrolet battle has been going on ever since the two companies got big and are still going today. Pickup trucks are the most popular type of vehicle in the US, and something both the companies make in tons. Once in a billboard war that happened in South Carolina, the Ford Dealership started it with a dig at Chevrolet with their mid-size pickup truck, but Chevrolet ended it with a diss against Ford’s muscle car.
1. Chevrolet Impala
Most police precincts in the US bought Chevrolet Impala because it was so popular. The general Impala had had more luxurious features and exterior colors. And once a motoring magazine, showed a black Impala SS from the side which looked quite menacing – with a comment, “Lord Vader, your car is ready”. Also, the ad further stating that “it is not a car for those who prefer to arrive unnoticed”. Scary.
