This year, three major players – Toyota, Hyundai, and MG will introduce new or updated models in this category. It will cater to the needs of families and adventure enthusiasts alike. Here are the three upcoming 7-seater SUVs with diesel engines in India arriving soon. Let’s dig in.
1. Toyota Fortuner Mild Hybrid:
The iconic Toyota Fortuner is popular for its ruggedness and reliability and is due to receive a significant upgrade with the introduction of a mild hybrid variant. This eco-conscious iteration aims to enhance fuel efficiency and reduce emissions without compromising the vehicle’s formidable performance.
The heart of the Fortuner Mild Hybrid lies in pairing the proven GD series diesel engine with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. This combination offers several benefits. Firstly, it will contribute to improved fuel economy for lower running costs. Secondly, the mild hybrid system can provide an additional power boost, potentially improving acceleration and overall performance.
While the exact launch date remains unconfirmed, reports suggest a later 2024 arrival for the Fortuner Mild Hybrid in the Indian market. The success of the mild-hybrid Hilux in Europe suggests the potential for broader adoption of this technology in other markets, including India. However, official confirmation regarding an Indian launch is still unknown.
2. 2024 Hyundai Alcazar Facelift:
Hyundai’s popular 7-seater offering, the Alcazar is due for a mid-2024 refresh. Drawing inspiration from the recently updated Creta, the Alcazar facelift promises a renewed appearance while maintaining its distinct identity within the segment.
Visually, the Alcazar facelift will incorporate some styling elements from the Creta. It will create a sense of design cohesion within the Hyundai lineup. However, unique design cues will set the Alcazar apart, ensuring it retains its character as a bolder and more premium offering than the Creta.
Moving inside, the cabin is likely to retain the overall layout of the current model while adopting a more sophisticated and upmarket feel. Distinctive enhancements compared to the Creta are also arriving, further emphasizing the Alcazar’s positioning as a premium 7-seater choice.
In terms of powertrain options, the 2024 Hyundai Alcazar will carry forward the existing 1.5L turbocharged diesel engine, generating 116 PS and 250 Nm of torque. This tried-and-tested engine will continue and will come with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. Additionally, the 1.5L turbo petrol engine with 160 PS and 253 Nm, introduced in the Alcazar last year, will remain available.

3. MG Gloster Facelift:
MG Motor is gearing up to introduce the facelifted version of its flagship SUV, the Gloster, by the end of 2024. This update comes after the Gloster has established itself as a strong contender in the premium 7-seater SUV segment, offering a compelling combination of space, comfort, and performance.
The MG Gloster facelift is expected to receive a significant visual refresh, focusing on the exterior design. Spy images hint at revised front and rear bumpers, a redesigned grille, and updated headlamps and fog lamps. The taillights will also likely undergo revisions, contributing to a more contemporary aesthetic. New alloy wheels will further enhance the Gloster’s visual appeal.
Under the hood, the MG Gloster facelift is expected to retain its proven 2.0L turbocharged diesel engine, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. This engine delivers 161 PS in its 2WD configuration, while the 4WD variant produces a higher output of 216 PS. This combination ensures ample power and torque for effortless cruising and tackling challenging terrains.
