Volvo plans to introduce two new electric vehicles in 2024, one of which is the Volvo EX30, their smallest and most affordable SUV. The EX30 features a modern design with sleek curves, distinctive Thor’s Hammer LED headlights, and a diagonal Volvo logo. Its appealing appearance is further enhanced by the “paint-the-roof black” technique. On the other hand, Volkswagen offers the 2023 ID.4 SUV as an electric car targeting the mass market. It combines practicality, comfort, and a decent driving range, making it a suitable option for those transitioning from internal combustion engines. However, some users desire a more playful driving experience. The ID.4 provides a maximum range of approximately 275 miles per charge, but the base Standard trim offers a smaller battery and a range of around 208 miles at a lower price.

Even the base rear-drive version is no slouch, with 272 horsepower that rivals the acceleration of a Honda Civic Type R, achieving 60mph in under 5.5 seconds.

Volvo plans to introduce three trim levels for the EX30, following their usual practice. These options, known as Core, Plus, and Ultimate, are projected to be priced between $50,000 and $60,000, catering to both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive setups. Safety is a top priority in the EX30, featuring Volvo’s cutting-edge Safe Space Technology. One notable safety feature is the Door Opening Alert, which alerts you if there are any approaching vehicles when opening the car’s door. To ensure driver attentiveness, the Advanced Driver Alert System utilizes motion sensors and eye-monitoring technology as standard.

Battery, Power & Acceleration
The ID.4 offers a choice between a single rear-mounted motor generating 201 horsepower and a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive model with a power output of 295 horsepower. With a robust maximum towing capacity of 2700 pounds, it proves to be a capable companion. Opting for the more potent all-wheel-drive variant enhances the ID.4’s acceleration, demonstrated by its impressive 5.4-second sprint to 60 mph on a test track. According to EPA estimates, the optional 77.0-kWh battery pack can power the SUV for up to 275 miles before requiring a recharge. Charging the battery at home is convenient with 110- or 240-volt connections, and it also supports fast charging through DC charging stations.
Price & Features
While the Standard variant may be the most cost-effective option, we recommend considering the mid-range Pro model to fully utilize the ID.4’s range and take advantage of DC fast charging capabilities at public charging stations. The ID.4 has a starting price of $40,290 and includes a 12.0-inch infotainment touchscreen as a standard feature.
