The Porsche 911 EV sounds boring as this is the legendary sports car from the Stuggart based automaker. The success of the electric Porsche Taycan easily surpassed the sales numbers of the gasoline-powered Porsche 911 in some markets. This convinced the German automaker to develop an electric variant of its arguably most legendary sports car.
Electrifying the Porsche 911
Many popular automakers of the world are already on the verge of electrifying their lineup. Porsche has primarily tackled the booming EV market with battery-powered vehicles like the Taycan. Some new information suggests that in addition to the upcoming electric Macan, the German automaker is already working on an all-electric version of the 911 sports car.
In a recent financial report, Porsche’s CEO Oliver Blume said it is fully committed to electrifying its lineup of all vehicles except for the iconic 911. But now it looks like the stakes have turned as the company is planning to equip the 911 with a highly advanced solid-state battery made by the American manufacturer Quantumscape.
These solid-state batteries are of higher energy density and could improve EV charging speeds, flammability, limited voltage ranges, poor cycling performance, and overall speed or strength. These are all rumours and the company’s executive board has yet to grant its final approval for the development of an electric Porsche 911.
